DISCUREN FOUNDATION AWARDS $15,896 TO
“ONEWORLD NOW!”
((Seattle, WA) The Discuren Foundation has awarded OneWorld Now! a $15,896 grant to support its after school Arabic and Chinese language programs at Cleveland and Garfield high schools. OneWorld Now! provides a unique and comprehensive after school global leadership program of world languages, leadership training, internships and study abroad experience to high school youth. The program is currently offered at four Seattle public high schools.
Besides OneWorld Now!’s innovative and comprehensive programming, the organization focuses on serving mostly low-income and minority youth. The Discuren Foundation is particularly interested in serving this population as Director Greg Coy says “all children deserve the kind of education that will help them make contributions to society in whatever way is right for them. We want to help those who can help children discover their place in the world and who are giving them the tools to carve out their niche -- OneWorld Now! is doing just that.”
OneWorld Now! was recently selected as one of twelve (out of 600 applicants nationwide) of the most innovative after school programs in the country by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. The recent positive press and attention has also inspired Congressional leaders to visit OneWorld Now! and meet the students. Recent visitors include Representative McDermott and Representative Baird. ;
OneWorld Now! has an impressive Board roaster of community leaders, and has also leveraged partnerships with local organizations like Associates in Cultural Exchange, MAVIN Foundation, the University of Washington as well as IIPP, a special program of the United Negro College Fund. OneWorld Now! is a nonprofit global leadership program dedicated to providing language, leadership, study abroad and community service to youth. The program is currently offered at Cleveland, Ingraham, Garfield and Roosevelt public high schools. OneWorld Now! is a project of the Tides Center.
